Fourth of July ~ Becoming My Favorite Holiday

Happy 4th of July! The 4th of July is quickly becoming my favorite holiday. It used to mean nothing to me but shooting off fireworks or having picnics. Since then I have come to highly value the heroic efforts of the men and women serving our country. Especially, when I see people that call themselves Americans living without regard or respect to our flag, country, or other Americans.

I am reminded of my own experience with a special American serviceman. We were returning home after a trip to Disneyworld and had just lifted off from the Dallas airport. Many service men and women were at the airport having just touched down on American soil from serving in Iraq. Several representatives from Disneyworld were there to welcome them and gave many of them stuffed Disney characters. As a young military man sat down in a seat behind our family, he spotted my youngest daughter, (then newly 4) wearing her Minnie Mouse ears and handed her the Mickey Mouse doll he was given at the airport.

After many thank yous to the serviceman, my daughter looked from the man to the doll again and again. Finally, she asked me, "Mommy, who is that man?" I told her he was a very special person with a very important job of protecting our country and the people in it. After looking again at the man, she turned to me and asked, "Mommy, is that Jesus?" I couldn't help but cry. When I see the flag, I think of all the sacrifices made for our country. Much like the sacrifices of our heavenly Father. If you are reading this and you have ever served our country, thank you for being that kind of a hero.
I am proud to live in America!
One nation UNDER GOD!!
