The Chance ~ A Moving Tale by @KarenKingsbury

Disclosure *I was given a copy of this book. All thoughts are from @FitzysMom of Rambles of a SAHM

Christian Fiction

About the book:

The day before a teenage Ellie moved from Georgia to California, she and her best friend Nolan sat beneath the Spanish moss of an ancient oak tree where they wrote letters to each other and buried them in a rusty old metal box. The plan was to return eleven years later, dig the box up, and read the letters. But now, as that date approaches, much has changed. Ellie has abandoned the faith she grew up with, her days consumed with loving her little girl and trying to make ends meet. Sometimes she watches TV to catch a glimpse of her old friend Nolan, now an NBA star, whose faith is known by the entire nation. But few know that Nolan’s own personal tragedies have fueled both his faith and athletic drive. Despite his success, Nolan is isolated and lonely, plagued by a void in his heart that has remained since that night beneath the old oak tree with Ellie. For both Ellie and Nolan, the coming date is more than just a childhood promise. It’s the chance to make sense of it all—the chance to find out if it’s ever too late to find love again.

Karen Kingsbury weaves a moving tale of heart-wrenching loss, the power of faith, and the wounds that only a forever kind of love can heal. She delves deeply into a theme that resonates within us all: Hope lives for those willing to take a chance.

About the author:

Twitter @KarenKingsbury

Karen Kingsbury is America’s favorite inspirational novelist. There are more than 25 million copies of her award-winning books in print, including several million copies sold in the past year. Karen’s recent dozen titles have all debuted at or near the top of the New York Times Bestseller’s list.

She is also a public speaker, reaching more than 100,000 women annually through various national events. Karen lives and works outside Nashville, Tenn., with her husband, Don, and their five sons, three of whom were adopted from Haiti. Also living nearby is their only daughter, Kelsey, an actress in inspirational films and married to Christian recording artist Kyle Kupecky.

My thoughts:

In The Chance Karen Kingsbury brings us back to the writing style that we’ve all come to know and love. Yes, it is a storyline that has been done before and some of the characters are larger than life and way above reproach. Do they have flaws? Maybe, but they are few and far between.

The truth is that none of that matters. In The Chance we are taken on a journey through some seemingly impossible situations and in the end God provides a way. We are reminded that our good intentions often have not so good motives. Our righteous indignation is just that . . . ours. We use God to get others to act according to our thinking instead of seeking His wisdom in our own actions.

I enjoyed the premise of young love and the hope that it could become more than that someday. I thought that Nolan was a wonderful depiction of Christ’s love for us in the way he accepted and loved Ellie. Ellie’s parents’ story is proof that forgiveness is powerful for all involved.

A fun aspect of the book was getting to catch up with Molly and Ryan from The Bridge. I am enjoying this new non series that Karen has put together. I like the aspect of returning characters that pop up in future books. It is refreshing after a long drawn out series of series.

The Devyn Bag ~ A diaper bag moms want to carry! #BabyExtravaganza

Kim from Party of Five is here with a review of The Devyn Bag. Check it out and see if it is a good fit  for you!

Finding a "diaper bag " that is roomy enough to hold 2 kids stuff is tough. Finding one that hold theirs plus mine is even harder. I refuse to carry to bags with me since I am often carrying much more than I can handle.

We had a large duffle type bag when I was pregnant with Olivia and it was just too large. This time around I know I need a large bag but nothing super huge. I will only have one baby in diapers this time and the girls are older now and don't require all that "stuff" anymore.

Party of 5 was sent The Devyn Bag : Black with Aqua to review.

The picture does the size no justice. The Devyn Bag measures 16"L X 13"H x 6"D with 56" adjustable strap

The Devyn Bag comes nicely packaged in this adorable polka dot tissue paper

A beautiful combination of style, quality and modern ingenuity, the Devyn Bags offer true versatility as well as eye-catching design. The Devyn Bags are proudly made in the USA of the highest quality, lightweight, durable fabrics. What makes our chic bags truly unique is that they include three smart sections: 1) insulated cooler compartment for safely storing food and beverages, 2) padded iPad, tablet or other electronic devices section and 3) organized purse section which means today's active woman will be fully prepared for life's spectacular adventures.

I love that there is enough space for tons of stuff as I often have a tend to overpack by diaper bags!

Features
  • Midnight exterior with teal interior and silky aqua accent thread
  • Water-resistant fabric with attractive subtle luster
  • Aqua and black flowers with faint polka dots against beautiful white trimmed messenger strap and comfortable Ergo shoulder pad
  • Smart, easy access exterior pocket perfectly sized for phones, keys, and other essentials with Velcro closure
  • Three organized sections including:
    • Padded laptop or other devices section easily fits 17" laptop
    • Insulated cooler compartment with six mesh beverage or food holder ideally sized to hold bottles upright
    • Purse section with three spacious pockets, extra space and Velcro flap closure

The Devyn Bag comes in 2 colors:

Flower Strap with Aqua interior { like I reviewed } or Purple Strap with Berry interior.

The bag cleans easily with a damp cloth and is Made in the USA!!

Readings for Holy Week & Quest for the Nail Prints Giveaway #TimeTravel

Readings for Holy Week

Yesterday was Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week for Christians around the world. In our family we spend some time daily meditating on scripture that takes us through the events that begin with Palm Sunday and lead up to Easter.

This year we are using John Piper’s Love to the Uttermost: Devotional Readings for Holy Week.
Here is a link to download it for free if you are interested in using it for your daily reading.

I’ve also come across a wonderful fiction book that depicts Holy Week. The book clubs that I am involved with were given copies to read and review. Here are the details:

Fiction/Time Travel
Book 1

Back of the book:

Three ordinary people are chosen by God for an extraordinary experience, one so incredible that even they have a hard time believing it is real. Through unrelated circumstances, the three travelers find themselves sharing a journey to the Holy Land when suddenly they are thrust back in time nearly two thousand years, coming face to face with the rugged radical Nazarene known throughout the land as Jesus of Nazareth.

This is the story of how a personal encounter with the living Christ in His time creates the journey of a lifetime!

About the author:

Don Furr, an accomplished author and playwright has lived in the Memphis area for more than fifty years. Don and his wife Karen have three grown children and three grandchildren.

And time travel is his passion . . .

My thoughts:

From the moment you pick this book up you know there is something different about it. For starters there is a hole completely through it. One other thing that stands out is that it is Christian fiction but from the sci-fi genre. Yes there are other Christian sci-fi books, but in general they are few and far between.

I am not personally drawn to science fiction but my book clubs were asked to read and comment on this book so I obliged. I am grateful that I complied.

The story begins with three ordinary people from different walks of life. For different reasons they are each traveling to Israel. Through a series of events that are written in a manner that make them feel plausible, they are thrust back in time to the beginning of Holy Week. Make that the original Holy Week where Christ is making his way through the streets of Jerusalem.

The story continues through Holy Week and we get an up close and personal view through the eyes of our three travelers. I was amazed at how drawn in to the story I was. Don did a great job of staying accurate to scripture while adding in these new characters. The further you get into the book the more poignant that nail hole becomes. I’ve always thought it would be interesting to have been there. What would my reaction have been like? Would I have stayed to the bitter end or would I run and hide in fear? Expect to ponder these questions and more as you read this very intriguing tale.

Quest is the first book in the series and will be followed up by Peter’s Quest. I’m looking forward to reading it just so I can find out more about the three travelers and how all of this impacted them when they returned to their families.

Affinity Pro Double Electric Breast Pump. A Nursing mothers dream + Giveaway #BabyExtravaganza

Kim from Party of Five is here with a review and giveaway for all our nursing moms! Enjoy.

When I was pregnant with Peyton I knew I wanted to breastfeed. Well, my pregnancy with her was crazy from the moment those 2 pink lines showed up. Hyperemisis, high blood pressure, pre eclampsia and hellp syndrome. Those all led to an early delivery at 27weeks 5days. Since I knew I wanted to nurse her the Nurses had me pump and they froze my milk for me so that when she was able to "eat" she would have breastmilk aka " liquid gold."

The advised me to pump at home and freeze my milk. I was lost. Upon discharge from the hospital Hubs and I headed right to Babies R US to purchase a breast pump.

There were so many choices: manual, electric, single double, you name it, it was there just staring at me.

Lansinoh caught my eye. Now this wasn't the Affinity Pro Double Electric but the Lansinoh Double Electric pump. The price was right and I loved all of the features. I used this bad boy for 8 months of exclusive pumping with Peyton and then again for another 8 months of pumping with Olivia. We then gave our pump to a friend who used it tons.

Now that I am pregnant with 4.0 I needed a new pump and knew I wanted to stick with Lansinoh.
They recently came out with the Affinity Pro Double Electric Breast Pump and I knew I had to have it!

Since I have used a Lansinoh breast pump before I had no trouble assembling and disassembling the pump at all.

I love the new sleek design and cannot wait until baby girl arrives.

The Tutor's Daughter ~ Historical Fiction at its finest!

Historical Fiction

Back of the book:

Emma Smallwood, determined to help her widowed father when his boarding school fails, accompanies him to the cliff-top manor of a baronet and his four sons. But soon after they arrive and begin teaching the two younger boys, mysterious things begin to happen. Who does Emma hear playing the pianoforte at night, only to find the music room empty? And who begins sneaking into her bedchamber, leaving behind strange mementoes?

The baronet’s older sons, Phillip and Henry Weston, wrestle with problems—and secrets—of their own. They both remember the studious Miss Smallwood from their days at her father’s academy. But now one of them finds himself unexpectedly drawn to her . . .

When suspicious acts escalate, can Emma figure out which brother to blame and which to trust with her heart?

Filled with page-turning suspense, The Tutor’s Daughter takes readers to the windswept Cornwall coast—a place infamous for shipwrecks and superstitions—where danger lurks, faith is tested, and romance awaits.

About the author:

I worked in publishing for sixteen years (first in advertising, then as a fiction editor) and now write full time. Three of my books, The Maid of Fairbourne Hall, The Girl in the Gatehouse, and The Silent Governess have won the Christy Award for Historical Romance. The Maid of Fairbourne Hall and The Girl in the Gatehouse also won a Midwest Book Award and The Silent Governess was a finalist in Romance Writers of America's RITA awards.

I graduated from the University of Illinois and enjoy travel, research, BBC period dramas, long hikes, short naps, and coffee with friends. My husband and I have two sons and live near St. Paul, Minnesota.

My thoughts:

Do you enjoy the English classics by Jane Austen or better yet the Bronte sisters? If so you are going to be delighted by The Tutor’s Daughter.  Julie Klassen’s writing style is evocative of that classic form. I love to read works by Austen and the Bronte’s but one of the drawbacks is the old English style of language of the time frame and the multiple characters with similar names. Julie’s works are written in modern language and her characters are easily identifiable from the others.

The storyline is filled with twists and turns that add depth and dimension to the plot. The characters have a quality of realness that draws you deeper into the mystery. Up until the very last page you are led on a merry chase to find out exactly who is behind all of the sinister acts that keep happening.

For a modern quality of historical fiction, pick up a copy of The Tutor’s Daughter.  In fact any book you see with Julie Klassen’s name on it is worthy of purchasing and savoring.

Wordless Wednesday ~ Little H's First Haircut! @Pig_CrewAnnap

The other day Little H got his first haircut at Pigtails & Crewcuts! Yes, a little over due but I knew as soon as his baby curls were gone he would be a big boy. I can't believe how big he looks now and just from a haircut!

Wait, will I have any hair left???

Who is this guy???

Such a big boy now!

Drool Worthy Diaper Bag ~ Baby Cargo Georgi Bag #BabyExtravaganza

I have a slight addiction to diaper bags now that I am a mother of two. I just love all the different choices and often dream about my next purchase!
Trisha is here with her review of the Baby Cargo Georgi Bag. Enjoy!

I never realized how hard choosing a diaper bag would be! There are so many styles, colors, designs, and functions, How was I going to narrow it down to one? There are so many things to take into consideration for this must have item.

About the Baby Cargo Georgi Bag:

With your ingenious Georgi bag on hand(le), your bottles are stowed, your hands are free, and your “put together” style quotient just went up. Brass details like grommets that slide smartly over your umbrella stroller handles and stylishly zippered seams lend heft and style, at once. But what transforms Georgi from fashion item to stroller bag “must” is versatility: beautiful lightweight fabric, a sturdy shoulder strap that snaps to your full-service stroller bar, and a wealth of pockets mean everything stays neatly in place.

Features:
  • Beautiful lightweight fabric, brass details & stylishly zippered seams
  • Universal Handle Hooks
  • Brass grommet rings for umbrella strollers
  • Attachment snaps for strollers with one handle
  • Detachable/adjustable shoulder strap
  • 2-side bottle pockets
  • 7 interior pockets (1 lipstick, 1 wallet, 1 phone, 1 sunglass, 2 diaper pockets and 1 changing pad pocket)
  • 5 exterior pockets (2 side bottle pockets, 1 zippered center front pocket, 2 front pockets)
  • Zip closure to secure items
  • Available in Moonless Night, Ash & Violet, Chile & Tangerine and Wave & Ocean.

We had the opportunity to try the Baby Cargo Georgi Bag in Chile & Tangerine. When I received the bag in the mail, I immediately fell in love with the vibrant color and style! The Georgi Bag does not look like your typical stroller or diaper bag and is very chic. The lightweight bag also has a ton of room for diapers (cloth and disposable), wipes, baby clothing, and other things you would need while on the go.

The two side bottle pockets are the perfect size for bottles and slim sippy cups. I've also been able to put a bottle of water in one of the side pockets as well. When not in use, you can zip up the sides.

The Georgi Bag can be used with both strollers that have hooks such as an umbrella stroller and strollers with one handle. I have used the bag with my Britax B-Ready which has one handle and have also used the Georgi Bag with shopping carts and mall strollers as seen below. With one handle strollers, simply wrap the bag strap around the handlebar and snap the shoulder snaps together on each side. It can be transitioned from a shoulder bag to a stroller bag in seconds!

With a normal diaper bag, most of us just place the it at the bottom of our stroller. The Georgi Bag makes your belongings very accessible becasue they are right in front of you. I also appreciate all of the pockets on the inside and outside of the bag which allows me to keep organized. I keep my wallet in the front zipperd pocket and my keys in one of the pockets below it.

Inside the bag you will find seven pockets and in my bag, you would see a few cloth diapers, a wet bag, wipes, an extra change of clothing, snacks, and the diaper changing pad the the Georgi bag comes with. Even with all these items, the bag is still incredibly lightweight.

I highly recommend the Baby Cargo Georgi Bag to moms new and experience moms. I have owned many Diaper/stroller bags and the Georgi Bag is honestly my favorite! I still use it when I'm out and about and it has been the perfect bag for when I am on the go!

Buy it!
The Baby Cargo Georgi Bag can be purchased on their website

Win it!
Baby Cargo is sponsoring a Georgi Bag in the Baby Extravaganza giveaway! Open to US residents.

Peek Away 4-in-1 Essentials Nursing Kit ~ Giveaway #BabyExtravganza

Trisha is here with a new mommy must have. The Peek Away is there to help make life with a nursing baby a little easier. Check it out!

Before E was born, I was prepared for my breastfeeding journey by buying a pump, a nursing pillow, and other nursing accessories I though I would need. Then it hit me, Was I supposed to lug around this huge nursing pillow I just purchased? Obviously not, but how was I going to get comfortable while nursing on the go?

Recently I came across the Peek Away 4-in-1 Essentials Nursing Kit which is a handbag, travel nursing pillow, changing pad and nursing cover.

About Peek Away:
Peek Away is a wonderful product that promotes nursing and is an invaluable item for offering moms a nurturing start both for meeting their child's nutritional needs and bonding. Peek Away is committed to producing a safe, fashionable product made with love from people who care about children, life, and family.
Peek Away® was developed by Glen & Natalie Sanders in 2008, after the birth of their second son. Affected by the economic downturn, they were in the process of moving and found themselves traveling a lot. Nursing came easy, but packing a car and shuttling baby’s needs from place to place became very difficult. A pillow small enough to stow in the car, take into restaurants, on airplanes and into families homes was definitely needed along with added features to simplify packing. Filling a need was how Peek Away was born!

Features include:
  • A detachable shoulder strap doubles as a waist strap to help keep the pillow
    in place
  • built-in diaper changing pad with three panel foam cushion
  • built-in/removable wipe case
  • matching oval shaped nursing cover for extra privacy
  • Large size built-in pocket on nursing cover to act as a burp cloth
  • nursing cover top viewing window to maintain eye contact with baby
  • built in storage pockets for keys, diapers, baby clothes
  • made from washable materials
  • nursing pillow 14.5"L x 6.5"H x 5.5"W
  • diaper pad 27"L x 1.25"H x 14.5"W
  • nursing cover 27"H x 36"W
  • Total weight 1.55 lbs.
We received the 4-in-1 Essentials Nursing Kit in Trendy Brown which is a gorgeous print. When I first opened the box, I noticed the thickness of the pillow/ bag which was very appealing. I could immediately tell it would be comfortable for mom and baby.

I then opened the the kit into the diaper changing pad and was very impressed with the quality and the padding. Most Changing pads I have encountered have been thin and not very comfortable for baby. The Peek Away does not only look incredibly comfortable for an infant, It has some great features such as the built-in wipe case seen below!

The built in storage pockets are also a wonderful feature. They allow you to sore keys, extra clothing, disposable diapers and other items.

When I was trying to nurse E, I preferred to nurse discreetly. I love that the size of the nursing cover gives you plenty of coverage. It's very light and doesn't feel smothering like some other covers. My favorite part of the cover is hands down the minky pocket that's located on the inside of the cover that acts as a burp cloth!

The Peek Away 4-in-1 Essentials Nursing Kit would make an excellent gift to a nursing mom or mom who plans on nursing! Even if you prefer not to use a cover, The pillow is great to have while your out and about with your nursling! Also as mentioned, the minky pocket on the cover makes an excellent burp cloth!

    Buy it!

Peek Away is available on their website for $46.98!
