God and Me by Penny Boshoff ~ A Review and Giveaway!

Juvenile Nonfiction

Recommended ages: 5-10

Back of the book:

God and Me helps children discover more about God. Through familiar childhood situations, children are encouraged to think about what God is like, how He cares for them, and how He wants them to live in His world. A short Bible passage for parent and child to read together supports the day’s message, and a prayer helps children develop their own relationship with God.

Take A Peek Inside The Book:

My thoughts:

Your child is sure to be fascinated by this book. It has brightly colored illustrations and interesting fonts that catch the eye. The pictures are of real people in scenes that reflect the topic of the day. The devotion is written in a conversational style that I can just hear your little one responding back to.

One of my favorite things about this book is that it can be used in a few different ways which makes it easy to use year after year. My suggestion would be for the first year just use it as a daily devotional (it is dated and has an attached bookmark to keep your place). The next year you could use it as a child's version of Read The Bible Through in a Year. In the back of the book is an index that begins in Genesis and goes through Revelation. It of course doesn't cover every Scripture but it does give a broad overview of the Bible.

My last suggestion would be for those that are homeschooling. In the front of the book is a topical index that tells what each day's topic is. You could easily incorporate this into your curriculum by using this index to discover a devotion for your subject.

This is quite a substantial book! I think that you will enjoy reading it with your children and your children will love looking through all the bright pages filled with pictures of children and families just like theirs.
