Once Upon a Prince by Rachel Hauck ~ A Contemporary Fiction Book Review

Rachel Hauck
Royal Wedding Series, Book 1

About the book:

Once Upon a Prince, the first novel in the Royal Wedding series by best-selling author Rachel Hauck, treats you to a modern-day fairy tale.

Susanna Truitt never dreamed of a great romance or being treated like a princess---just to marry the man she has loved for twelve years. But life isn't going according to plan. When her high-school-sweetheart-turned-Marine-officer breaks up instead of proposing, Susanna scrambles to rebuild her life.

The last thing Prince Nathaniel expects to find on his American holiday to St. Simons Island is the queen of his heart. A prince has duties, and his family's tense political situation has chosen his bride for him. When Prince Nathaniel comes to Susanna's aid under the fabled Lover's Oak, he is blindsided by love.

Their lives are worlds apart. He's a royal prince. She's an ordinary girl. But everything changes when Susanna receives an invitation to Nathaniel's coronation.

It's the ultimate choice: His kingdom or her heart? God's will or their own?

My thoughts:

Once Upon a Prince is more than a story about the prince of Brighton. It is really a story about a relationship with the Prince of Peace. Rachel Hauck has once again carved out a tale that will not only entertain you but will also make you examine your relationship with the ultimate Prince.

This is truly a delightful modern-day fairy tale. It has all the great elements, a beautiful young woman who has been wounded in the arena of love and a handsome young prince masquerading as a tourist. When the two meet it is one of those priceless stories that will be told again and again to their children and grandchildren.

One of my favorite aspects of this novel is the way both Susanna and Nathaniel struggle with doing what is expected and what is right. Above all else they love the Lord and rely on Him to guide their decisions. There were times when I even wanted to set the book aside and join them in worshiping the Almighty. For me this really was a very moving story.

I’m excited that this is just the first of the series. I’m really looking forward to getting my hands on the next one. For a delightful read that will also allow you to ponder on your own relationships, pick this one up!
