Back of the book:

In a world governed by unspoken rules, one young woman is about to break them all . . .

Dutiful Jessamine Barry is tired of waiting patiently for a man to decide her future. So even though Lancelot Marfleet, second son of an aristocrat, is taking an interest in her during the London season, she refuses to consider him as a suitor. Instead, she's ready to take fashionable society by storm--and finds a rakish young man all too willing to help her do it.

Can Jessamine trust her heart to lead her to a love that proves true through thick and thin? Or will her rash actions close the door on the life she really desires?

Lose yourself in Ruth Axtell's sumptuous story of discovering one's true self and finding true love.

READ AN EXCERPT

My thoughts:

The Regency period of England has been one of my favorites since picking up Jane Austen in my early teen years. A Heart's Rebellion puts the reader right in the middle of a first London season for Jessamine and her best friend Megan. They are both country girls and at first they do not fit in with the daunting ton of London society. Through a few advantageous connections they begin to be noticed by the elite class. But that is just when the conflicts begin.

Ruth Axtell takes a great look at the complexities of doing what you desire and doing what is right. I was pleasantly surprised with how candid she was about the cavorting that many of the young men take part in. The book is filled with wonderful descriptions of the etiquette of the day. If you are drawn to botany you are going to especially enjoy this book.

Beyond all of that there is a beautiful love story between several of the characters that points the reader directly to the love of God. I think that you will come away from this book satisfied by a heart stirring story and a deeper appreciation of the time period.
