If you’ve been on Pinterest lately you can’t help but notice
the trend of once a month cooking…or stocking your freezer with meals.
When we were growing up my mom did this on a regular basis.
With three kids that had three different interests and schedules this made it
where we could still have a somewhat normal meal together at the end of the
day.
She stumbled upon a book called Once A Month Cooking by Mary Beth Lagerborg and Mimi Wilson. It is now available in a revised and expanded
version on Amazon.
Mary Beth and Mimi have also put together another book
called Once A Month Cooking: Family Favorites and it is also available on
Amazon.
These two books are the gold standard of once a month
cooking. They include everything you need to know! They have the monthly menu
that my mom would just print off and post on the freezer. When we would eat the
meal she’d just cross it off. It includes a shopping list that you just print
off and take to the store with you. It is detailed so you can make
substitutions of your preferences. It also includes all the preparation steps
that you need to take before your cooking day and then the steps for the
cooking day itself.
So you’re more impulsive like me and can’t quite wait for a
book to arrive in the mail…have I got a deal for you! Yesterday I found this Taste of Home Ultimate Freezer Cookbook on the shelves at my Walmart. It was $9.99
and I found it with the cooking magazines.
We’re going to start trying some of the recipes from it and Pinterest this
weekend and we’ll keep you posted on how it goes!
I have been really looking into to all this meal planning and freezer meals recently, and hope to start getting into it this month! I will be watching your posts! Thanks!
