Wherever You Are, Be All There!

For most of my life Diana Nyad has been trying to swim from Cuba to Florida. She took the chance four times and was unsuccessful. But on this her fifth try at the age of 64 she did it! I cheered for her from my living room where I was glued to the final moments.

The next day she held a press conference where she made a statement that just keeps resonating with me. She said, "Be fully engaged, be so awake and alert and alive every moment of every waking day."

When she said that I instantly thought of the famous quote from missionary Jim Eliot, "Wherever you are, be all there! Live to the hilt every situation you believe to be the will of God.” Those two quotes just sum up how I want to live my life. I want to be in the moment. I want to see, hear, smell and taste every second of every day!

The problem seems to be that wanting something and doing something can be so different. There are many distractions that call to us and steal those sweet moments away. The tyranny of the urgent replaces that which is important.

Today on the noon news they played a viral video called 'I Forgot My Phone'. It shows a day in the life of one woman who spent it without her smartphone. It made me laugh, but it also caused me to pause and think how ridiculous we've become. Take a look at it and see what I mean.

We spend so much time trying to capture the moment that we lose the opportunity to experience the moment. Life is so fleeting and we aren't promised tomorrow. We only have today, this very moment. I invite you to put the phone down and begin to live in this beautiful season of time that God has gifted each of us with!

Blessings!
