Belfry's Christmas Gift by Mike Joens ~ Christmas Gift Guide for Children {Giveaway}

Illustrated by Len Simon

In this heartwarming Christmas story from Theo's Tales of Little Overhill, Belfry must think of something to give Theo at the Christmas party. He soon discovers that the best gifts are not those wrapped in ribbons and bows. Belfry's gift is one that changes the life of a gruff and lonely clockmaker, someone shunned by all of the village animals. It is the gift of love!

My Thoughts

Our family has fallen in love with the quaint English village of Little Overhill. Theo and the sweet woodland creatures are just adorable. In Belfry's Christmas Gift we enter the village on Christmas Eve.

Poor Belfry is just beside himself because he cannot come up with a gift for Theo for tonight's celebration. Every creature in the village seems to have a wonderful talent and has produced a gift that will surely impress Theo. Feeling dejected Belfry wanders along the street wishing a "Happy Christmas" to all of his friends. When he comes upon Old Seamus Badger he again wishes him "Happy Christmas". Of course Old Seamus just ignores him.

Intrigued Belfry follows Seamus to his Clockworks shop and winds up spending the afternoon watching and helping Seamus around the shop. Unknowingly Belfry gives Seamus the best gift of all . . . love and friendship.

This is a beautiful story about the true gift that was given on Christmas. It wasn't about physical gifts. It wasn't about talents or worthiness. It was all about a redeeming love that was sent from heaven to live among us. This is the perfect read for your little ones this season. It offers a wonderful avenue for you to discuss what the season is all about and what is important.

  1. I would say the best gifts to receive are a hug, smile and an encouraging word. They all cost nothing but bring so much joy!
