My Take: I would love to buy this book for every tween girl. I love how the chapters have activities, quizzes, and crafts that go along with biblical principles. I would have loved this as a tween. It reminds me of the American Girl stuff with a Christian spin. I feel like this book would be great for starting conversations and activities with your tween daughter without being to awkward. I love the concept of Gigi God's Little Princess and now there is something for tweens! So if you have a daughter this is a must have for your tween!

Attack at the Arena (AIO The Imagination Station #2) by Paul McCusker & Marianne Hering

Attack at the Arena (AIO The Imagination Station #2) by Paul McCusker & Marianne Hering

Attack at the Arena
Adventures in Odyssey - The Imagination Station #2
Paul McCusker & Marianne Hering

Patrick and Beth learn that Mr. Whittaker’s fancy ring can be seen inside the Imagination Station but not outside of the machine. A mysterious letter leads the cousins to fifth-century Rome in search of a special cup that belongs to a monk. If found, the cup could keep the mysterious Albert out of prison.
At the Roman Colosseum, Emperor Honorius is hosting a gladiator battle in celebration of a war victory. Beth attends the event as the emperor’s slave; Patrick attends as a monk’s apprentice but is taken prisoner and sent to fight in the arena. During their adventure, the cousins meet Telemachus (a true historical figure), a monk who believes that fighting is wrong. Telemachus is willing to risk everything—even his life—to stop the killing. When the cousins return with the cup, they find that a third letter has been sent with more information about Albert’s fate.

My thoughts
Attack at the Arena is book two in the Imagination Station series. If you love the Adventures in Odyssey then you will love these books. These books are a great price at only 4.99 and perfect for ages 7and up! If you are homeschooling you can use these books for second grade. I really enjoyed the adventure in this book and that they used a real historical figure. I am looking forward to having the complete series for my son. I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

I received this book from Tyndale Publishers for my honest review.

Flip Flop Wines

flipflop wines: to each, their own

The Hubby and I like to buy a bottle of wine every now and then to relax and to cook with. Before hearing about flip flop wines the process of buying a bottle was usually a hit or miss. We have tried many types and only liked one. So when I was asked to try out flip flop wines I was hopeful at finding a great bottle of wine. Normally we go with reds however I was asked to review Riesling & pinot-grigio which are white wines. We loved both for different reasons. The Riesling was sweet but light and great for a glass before bed. The Pinot- grigio was great for cooking and is not as sweet so great for eating with a meal.
Overall both Hubby and I were impressed with the wine, and the company. We are looking forward to trying more!

Why we love this company!

For every bottle sold flip flop wines donates a pair of shoes to soles4souls! The best part is that the wines are only $7 a bottle so all SAHM's can afford that! They also have seven different types so you are sure to find one that you will enjoy.

Bottom line...

With flipflop wines, we have embraced the movement toward individualistic expression, instead of manufacturing wines into some cookie-cutter style that’s all the rage. Our goal is to craft expressive, well-balanced wines that evoke just what the grapes inside intended, without being over-wrought or over-explained, and that can be enjoyed at any occasion.

David Georges, Vintner

While working at an organic vegetable farm in the Mt. Shasta region of California, David discovered the art of grape growing. After planting a small vineyard on the farm, he was fascinated with wine, from managing the vineyard to tasting the fruits of his labor. Inspired to learn more, David attended the University of California at Davis first to study viticulture, and then added  winemaking coursework as well. David honed his winemaking skills at well-known California wineries including Artesa and Davis Bynum.
In 2009, David began working on the wines that would become the inaugural vintage of flipflop. His goal is to stay true to each wine’s varietal character, and to make great tasting wines that don’t break the bank.

I was provided with two free bottles of wine from Flip Flop Wines for my honest review!

The Daughter’s Walk by Jane Kirkpatrick | Historical Fiction Review

The Daughter's Walk by Jane Kirkpatrick

Book review disclosure.

The Daughter’s Walk
Jane Kirkpatrick
Historical Fiction
4 out of 5 Stars

My Thoughts

I love the genre of historical fiction and Jane Kirkpatrick is the master of it. She has an amazing ability to write about strong women in our past. This installment of Ms. Kirkpatrick’s repertoire is about a mother and daughter that set out on an almost impossible feat. The year is 1896 and Helga Estby has accepted a wager to walk across the country in order to promote the women’s suffrage movement. The fashion industry has put up a $10,000.00 prize if the trip can be made in less than 7 months.

Helga decides that she and her 19 year-old daughter, Clara, will make the trip and win the money in order to save the family farm from foreclosure. The first section of the book is about the trip across America. It covers the struggles and triumphs of the trek. It is a time of secrets being revealed and a close bonding time for mother and daughter.

The second part of the book covers the repercussions of the journey. Not just for Helga and Clara, but for the family members left behind. The story continues through Clara’s life and comes full circle to the restoration of a family.

I would highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys reading about strong women overcoming insurmountable odds. It is a beautiful story about a woman who continually lives out Isaiah 30:21, “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’”

I received an ARC for this review from Water Brook Press. The review is my honest opinion!
