My Thoughts

When Where Two Hearts Meet arrived in my mailbox I was excited to once again travel to Prince Edward Island. I had enjoyed the story of Marie and Seth in The Red Door Inn and was looking forward to reading more of their story.

This novel picks up shortly after the previous left off. Seth and Marie are now the owners of Rose's Red Door Inn and have hired Caden Holt to be their executive chef. If you read the first book you'll remember Caden as the somewhat insecure woman that worked in her father's bakery. Becoming the executive chef for the inn was just what she needed to boost her confidence.

But of course as life is prone to do a few curve balls begin to come Caden's way and all those insecurities begin to surface again. Adam Jacobs arrives at the inn and immediately begins to stir longings in Caden that she thought she had put away. The next arrival is Caden's arch nemesis Bethany Burke. Bethany is seemingly everything that Caden is not and that just adds layer after layer of insecurities.

A lot of us are like Caden, a little on the curvy side with a heaping dose of self-doubt to go along with it, so her character is easy to relate to. It was interesting to watch her character develop from a woman that runs from her problems to one that puts on her brave cape and faces the challenges. What I liked the most is that she learned that this ability to be brave doesn't really come from belief in yourself but in belief of the One who made you.

Overall this is a wonderful story about two people overcoming obstacles through faith and perseverance. I enjoyed the blossoming romance between Caden and Adam and the continued story of Seth and Marie as well as the rest of the North Rustico residents. Where Two Hearts Meet can certainly be read as a stand alone novel, but I would recommend reading The Red Door Inn first to get a deeper understanding of what is going on. Plus it's just a great story so why skip it?

My Thoughts

The Red Door Inn is my first Liz Johnson novel, but I am sure it will not be my last. I was drawn to the book because the setting is Prince Edward Island . . . remember Anne of Green Gables? I thought it would be a nice soothing and uplifting story just like its predecessor. It was, but the story line wasn't the same at all.

Marie Carrington is scared and running from something. Her plan of getting to Prince Edward Island and disappearing is unraveling. Just when all seems lost an angel appears in the form of Jack Sloane. Jack not only makes a way for Marie to get to PEI, but also offers her a job and shelter once she's there.

The only problem seems to be Jack's nephew Seth. He's very skeptical of Marie and isn't shy about making his feelings known.The two are like oil and water but both adore Jack and try to find a middle ground to keep from hurting Jack.

As the story unfolds we learn more about why Jack is opening the inn and why Marie is running. The story has a gentle feel yet it contains serious subjects. I enjoyed reading about how Jack's faith carried him through some impossible situations and how that faith is spilling over onto Marie and Seth.

This book left me once again wanting to make a trip to PEI. I look forward to the next book and the continuing story of these engaging characters.
