My Thoughts

We fell in love with the May The Faith Be With You Devotional a couple of years ago. When the corresponding NIrV May The Faith Be With You Holy Bible became available this year I knew our boys needed it. They are all about space and science so this is a good fit for them.

I appreciate the NIrV translation because it is a third grade reading level which makes it easy for our oldest to read on his own and aloud to his brothers. Being able to read for himself gives him a sense of pride in accomplishment, frees me up, and gets them all in the word so that is a big bonus for our entire family. The inserts that explore creation and and other space and science type of things are a wonderful bonus. The illustrations are interesting to the boys so that means they are more likely to pick it up more often. That is a win to me!

This particular Bible would appeal to many, especially if they are space/science types. I think it would even work for older kids that are needing an easier reading level or English As A Second Language students. The content isn't babyish at all so it would work well.

Inside the NIrV Love Letters from God Holy Bible

My Thoughts

What's better than getting a sweet letter from a beloved family member? Not much if you ask me. It is such a gift that you can savor over and over again. That's exactly what the Bible should be to us, a sweet letter from our Father. Each time you open its covers words of wisdom just pour out begging you to take them to heart and live your life accordingly.

The NIrV Love Letters from God has 80 love letters from God that are designed to point to important attributes of God and get the reader to respond back. We've enjoyed Glenys Nellist's books that have taken this same theme and are thrilled with this brilliant way to get children to not only learn more about what the Bible contains but also to interact with it.

This Bible just begs to be given as a gift to that special child in your life. I know who I have in mind and I intend to systematically go through and write that child's name into each of the 80 blanks so that she will feel that the letters were meant especially for her.

The holidays are fast approaching and I think this would make a wonderful gift for the developing reader on your list. Remember that the NIrV is written at a third grade reading level so it is easily understood and gives confidence to the young reader. By the way if you're looking for something just a little nicer than the hardcover edition there is a darling imitation leather version in the color of magenta!

Kids' Devotional Bible from Zonderkidz | Tween Bible Review

Kids' Devotional Bible from Zonderkidz

Book review disclosure.

New International Readers Version (NIrV)
Zonderkidz
Juvenile Nonfiction / Bible (ages 6-10)

DEVELOP
A GOOD
DAILY HABIT

A Bible you can read yourself!

Complete with a year’s worth of devotions, the Kids’ Devotional Bible, NIrV will help children develop a habit they’ll want to keep. Engaging weekday devotions, fun weekend activities, interesting illustrations, and a dictionary make this a Bible they’ll want to read and apply to their lives. It includes the complete New International Reader’s Version (NIrV)—the stepping stone to the NIV—making it easier for young readers to read and understand.

Features include:
  • Short weekday devotions that help young readers apply Bible lessons for a full year.
  • 52 weekend devotions that teach kids about God’s creation through fun activities like visiting the zoo and gazing at the stars.
  • “Got It” feature that encourages kids to find answers to Bible trivia themselves.
  • Book introductions that give helpful information about each book of the Bible.
  • A DICTIONARY to look up words they want to know more about.
  • The complete NIrV text, which uses shorter sentences and easier words. Kids can read this Bible on their own!
Bible Art Journaling for Tweens
The black and white illustrations make for a perfect opportunity
to introduce your tween to Bible Art Journaling.
My Thoughts

The Kids' Devotional Bible is one of the most versatile Bibles for tweens that I have seen in quite awhile. One of the most important aspects is that it is easily readable by this age group. Reading comprehension is so important and the NIrV is written at a third grade reading level so the tween set should be able to read and comprehend what is before them.

Daily devotions.
Another thing that I like is the daily devotions. It is set up so that your tween will get a nice overview of Scripture by the end of the year. The weekday devotions give a portion of Scripture for reading then an insightful devotional message and an Ask Yourself question that could be used in conjunction with journaling. Finally for all the budding list-makers and box-checkers there is a place to check that you have read the devotion. (I personally get such a sense of accomplishment from that!) The weekend devotions are similar with daily readings and a devotional thought but then they have a section called Some Things to Think About and Some Things to Do.

All of the above is nice, but my absolute favorite thing is all of the black and white coloring book type of illustrations. They just beg the reader to add some color and inspirations of their own. I've been Bible Art Journaling for quite some time and I'm delighted to say that my tween grand girl is also interested in it. The Kids' Devotional Bible is the perfect way to get your tween started. Teaching your child to express their God given artistic talents while worshiping is a great way to increase time in the Word. There aren't wide margins but the illustrations do have a lot of white space around them that can be used to add your own expressions.

If you are looking for a new way to increase exposure and add enjoyment of Scripture reading time I would suggest that you take a look at the Kids' Devotional Bible. It's done in a black and white color scheme so it would be fitting for either a boy or a girl.

Book headers.
Even the introductions to each book have a scene to color.

Kids' Quest Study Bible from Zonderkidz | Children's Bible Review

New International Reader's Version (NIrV)
Children's Bible (ages 6-10)

Why did God allow the flood?
Is Jesus real?

The NIrV Kids' Quest Study Bible is a great resource for kids eager to learn more.

FEATURES INCLUDE
  • Over 500 real questions form kids like you, along with real answers
  • Quest challenges help you apply the Bible's teachings to your own life by pointing to Scripture
  • Book introductions help explain what each book of the Bible is about
  • A dictionary and subject guide help you find what you're looking for
  • Colorful design with cartoons makes the Bible fun to look at and use
  • The complete New International Reader's Version translation--the NIV for kids! The NIrV is written at a third-grade reading level, so it is easy to understand.

My Thoughts

Kids and questions just seem to go hand in hand. Being curious and asking questions is a natural part of learning. It's a good thing and one that we all want to encourage in our kids. But what do you do with all of those questions?

One way to handle them is to just answer the question outright. Another way is to show our children how to find the answers for themselves. I personally like the second option. Teaching children how to research an answer gives them lifelong skills that will give them sound discernment especially if they are researching from a trusted resource.

I believe that trusted source for answers is the Bible. The new Kids' Quest Study Bible is great for those curious minded kiddos. Throughout the book there are real questions from kids with follow-up commentary and Scripture references that allow the child to read and research for themselves the correct answer.

This Bible uses the NIrV translation which is targeted at a third-grade reading level. I like this because it allows younger children that have yet to acquire advanced reading skills to understand what they are reading. This particular translation is also great for those who use English as their second language.

If you are looking for a Bible for one of your children you certainly can't go wrong with this particular edition.

Under The Sea Holy Bible from Zonderkidz | Children's Bible Review & Giveaway

New International Reader's Version (NIrV)
Children's Bible (ages 6-10)

Look at the ocean,
so big and wide!
It is filled with more
creatures than people
can count.
(Psalm 104:25)

This sparkly and fun Bible contains the complete text--Genesis to Revelation--of the New International Reader's Version (NIrV--the NIV for kids!) and is perfect for children. Sparkling fish grace the exterior while inside whimsical underwater illustrations surround important Bible themes to help kids dive deep into God's Word.

Books of the Bible

My Thoughts

This summer the new movie Finding Dory seems to be on the must see list for most families. With eight grandkids of my own I can assure you it is on our to-do list as well. I'm sure it is going to be a wonderful movie that will take us all into the colorful undersea world. After watching the movie I'm also sure that my grands will be enamored with all things Dory.

To me this is the perfect time to capitalize on their fascination with all the sea creatures by introducing them to the Creator of this underwater world. Zonderkidz has just released a new children's Bible that focuses on sea life. It uses the NIrV translation which is designed for a third grade reading level. The sentences and word structure are simplified without loosing the correct translation. I have come to appreciate this as my grands have become readers. It gives them such a sense of accomplishment to be able to read the Bible on their own.

There are several inserts that have beautiful illustrations and break down specific scripture like "the love chapter" (1 Corinthians 13:1-13), The Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13), and the 10 Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17 and Deuteronomy 5:7-21).

My favorite interactive portion in this children's Bible is titled "Famous Children Of The Bible". The section gives a hint or clue about a particular boy(s) or girl(s) then it gives the Scripture reference where the answer can be found. As a former homeschooling momma this is right up my alley! You could easily make a game out of this that would be a learning opportunity disguised as a fun activity.

Now . . . how about a GIVEAWAY?!! Want to take advantage of the excitement surrounding the new sea life movie to introduce your children to the Creator? We've partnered with Zonderkidz to make a way for one of our readers to get their own copy of the Under The Sea Holy Bible.

NIrV Minecrafters Bible from Zonderkidz {Review & Giveaway}

New International Reader's Version (NIrV)
Ages 6-12

CRAFT YOUR LIFE

. . . whether you're in
creative or survival mode!

Do you ever feel like it's more fun to exist in the computer world tahn the real one? Is that the only place you feel like you can control your destiny? Well, God is the original great world builder, and he gave us the power and the skills we need to make changes in the real world.

The NIrV MINECRAFTERS BIBLE includes:
  • Complete text of the New International Reader's Version (NIrV) of the Bible--from Genesis to Revelation
  • 24 color tip-in pages featuring full-color illustrations in the style of a wildly popular virtual-world-building game
  • Featured stories such as Creation and great builds of the Bible

My Thoughts

If you have a Minecrafter in your midst you need this Bible! I must admit that when my grandson first introduced me to Minecraft I just didn't get the appeal of the squared-off pixelated characters. Then I got my hands on a copy of the NIrV Minecrafters Bible and a lightbulb went on!

I love finding creative ways to pour the Bible into my kids and grands. Who knew a video game could be used for that? To me the Minecrafters Bible is the ultimate accessory for this game. To help get you started using the Bible in conjuction with the game there are twenty-two full color pages with Scripture passages to read and suggested things to do. After your kiddo has gone through those there's an even longer list of great Bible stories at the very back of the book.

My daughter has been using the Minecrafters Bible each morning by reading a particular story with my grandson and then allowing him some extended time to recreate that day's story. It's been such a delight to see him continually refer back to the Bible as he adds details to his world.

If you are a homeschooling family this would be a wonderful addition to your Bible curriculum. I can also see it being used in youth groups on special event nights. My grandson's friends already get together informally to play Minecraft so I think it would be an easy way to engage the culture while instilling truth in the lives of the next generation.

Now . . . how about a GIVEAWAY?!! We are loving how the Minecrafters Bible is helping us to teach our kiddos important Biblical truth. So we've partnered with Zonderkidz to make a way for one of our readers to get their own copy.

The giveaway is open to U.S. residents and will run through midnight on Tuesday, June 14, 2016. You must be at least 18 years old to enter. The winner will be contacted by email and will have forty-eight hours to claim the prize. If unclaimed, a new winner will be drawn. The winners’ entries will be verified. NIrV Gift & Award Bible ~ Perfect For Young Readers

NIrV Gift & Award Bible

Book review disclosure.

Early readers will love the NIrV Gift & Award Bible. And church leaders, friends, parents, and grandparents will love giving it, knowing it will be used often by hearts eager to grow a big faith in God. The New International Reader’s Version (NIrV) is an accurate translation of the entire Bible that is adapted with care from the New International Version (NIV) and created especially for early readers.

Features include:

• Presentation page
• Dictionary
• Complete text of the NIrV―the NIV for kids!
• “Three Ways to Read the Bible” – Explains how to read the Bible by story, subject, or person
• “About the Bible” – Describes how the Bible was written and how it came to us
• “Life in Bible Times” – Describes what life was like when Jesus was on earth
• “The ABCs of Salvation” – Helps explain the way of salvation

My Thoughts

One of the things high on my priority list is to make sure that all of the children within my sphere have a Bible of their own. I love giving these little ones a copy of the NIrV Bible. It is the perfect version for early readers and allows them to begin the lifelong habit of reading and memorizing scripture.

This edition is especially nice because it is very affordably priced but it includes all of the features that you want in a beginner Bible. If you are planning a Vacation Bible School or Backyard Bible Club pick up several copies for the kids attending.

I also like to use it for supplements to gifts for birthday parties and other gift giving occasions. If you'd like to dress it up a bit just make a custom cover with washi tape or some other crafty idea or purchase a Bible cover. There is a presentation page that you can personalize for the special recipient.

One other thing we use this particular Bible for is the English as a Second Language classes at our church. The price is right and the reading level is perfect for those just beginning to grasp the complexities of the English language.
