Mommy Confession Tough Stuff ~ Part 2

A few months after little H was born I was pretty disappointed with how I looked and wrote a blog post titled Mommy Confession Tough Stuff. Now it’s less than a month away from Little H first birthday and my, oh my have my thoughts changed. I am not sure what has changed my way of thinking but I am glad to be where I am right now.

I was having a conversation the other day with another mom and we were talking about how we feel anything but super. I then made the comment of maybe it is because a mother’s work is never done so even though we may accomplish a lot we know that there is still much more to do and the next day will inevitably hold more of the same. So we make ourselves feel like failures.

After making this statement I thought about it for a while and realized how awful that is to think. Our society has so many unattainable ideals for women. One case in point, celebrities have babies and are then in skinny jeans as soon as they leave the hospital! That makes me feel anything but super as I still look down and see extra belly fat.

There are other times when I just want to sit down and get stuff done. It seems that as soon as I do Little H or Little M suddenly needs me. I just think if I had a nanny, cook or a maid, etc. I wouldn't have this problem.

The other day while I was thinking about the comment from above it hit me. My thinking has to change.  Thinking I am a failure every day is crazy, insane and definitely not healthy!

Now this way of thinking goes all the way back to when I was in labor with Little M and I looked at my husband and asked him if he wanted to switch spots with me.  Why would I ever ask him that? Giving birth is one of the most amazing things I have ever done. Both times I gave birth I realized what a miracle life is and what an opportunity it is to give birth. Both times I realized how gracious God is to me and how I can do nothing without Him.

There is an ugly side to motherhood that includes dirty diapers, lack of sleep, kids with bad manners, stretch marks, throw up, etc. BUT there is an even more amazing side to motherhood! I am the one they ask for when sick. I am the one who gets to kiss their soft heads and nurse them back to sleep. I am the one who gets to see their first steps.  Bottom line I am the one they want.

Wow isn’t that your dream job to do something for someone who wants you! Now if I think of the things I feel that make me a failure such as the continual mountain of laundry, my abs no longer being rock hard, or not getting everything done I realize those are minor things.

I have it made! Yes I may have stretch marks and extra weight to lose but it just reminds me that I participated in a miracle and gave life.

I love my boys and for their sake and mine I will not see myself as a failure. Instead I choose to see it through their eyes. I am their booboo kisser, playmate, listener, and most of all I am their Momma.

Wordless Wednesday ~ Where have you been?

Little M raking for fun! He takes after his father.

You may have noticed that I have missed several Wordless Wednesday posts.  So why has this happened???

Well, you see I am what some refer to as “disorganized”! How was I diagnosed with this disorder?

I am going to choose to say it was children!!! Yep children…. Those messy little minions have just changed me completely!

OKAY actually the true is I have always been “disorganized”! It drives my mother crazy but for the most part she has accepted my disease! This was a typical conversation when I was little.

Mom: “Where are your ballet shoes?”

Me: “I don’t know! It got losted!”

She was never satisfied with that answer. I saw it as a very logical answer!

Fast forward to adulthood and I can’t seem to find my camera! I looked everywhere and was beginning to think I had left it somewhere.

Shoot this camera is officially losted!

When hubby got home I had to finally ask him. (I hated to admit to it being losted.)

Me: “Hubby have you seen the camera anywhere?”

Hubby: “Have you used it since I put it back in the case?”

Me: “No I haven’t”

Hubby: “Pulls out the camera case and surprise there it is!”

If the camera was left out it would have never been losted! So you see I simply focus better with disorganization.  If something is losted for me it usually means it is where it belongs but I never remember this till after the fact.

Now if you ask me this in public I am going to say “yeah kids just make me so disorganized! “

All right there is my confession! Now are there any mommies out there with this disease that is easily blamed on your innocent children?  Go ahead and leave an anonymous comment! J

Mommy Confession ~Tough Stuff! ~

Believe it or not but that was me five years ago! Before becoming a mommy I was a dancer, a professional dancer. I breathed, slept, and lived dance. Dance was my identity. People would ask me what do you do and I would proudly respond I am a dancer!

My body was in prefect shape. I loved how I looked and never had a problem with self-esteem.

Then I became a mother. I was amazed that I could push out a baby and felt as though I could take anything on. I was very different. While life was a little crazy and exhausting I seemed to adjust pretty well.

I became a mother for the second time. WOW....I mean I have done this before no big deal… right???
Well, kind of. Now instead of just stretch marks I have a belly pouch with stretch marks that resemble deep scars.  It’s hard because I do not like it. In fact I down right HATE it!

I am sure you are rolling your eyes saying get over yourself already but I mean really…. It’s HARD!!!

I feel like this is tough stuff that no one mentions. No one ever told me that you will have a baby and they are sooo amazing but in the process you will learn what it really means to sacrifice. Your body will no longer be just yours. No one ever told me that it would be hard to look in the mirror and like what you see. No one ever told me it would be hard when your husband tells you how great you look and you actually have to tell yourself he is telling the truth.

So as a mom I have been thinking why don’t we tell each other these things? I think it’s because saying these things makes you look selfish and ungrateful BUT heck it’s the truth!

Now that I have admitted to having low self-esteem about my stretch marks and finding it very hard to accept that I will look like this from now on you can either silently agree or ridicule me and call me selfish. Your choice but I choose to be transparent!

I love my boys and now I need to learn to love my body again…
