30 Days of Thanksgiving: Day 14 ~ Canon Camera

Before Sam and I were married he bought a nice Canon camera. While we were dating we would go down to the lake by my parents’ house and take pictures. We also took a lot of selfies while we were engaged and during the first year of marriage. I love looking back on those photos and seeing how much we have changed.

Then our first baby came and all the priceless birth photos and all those first moments were captured with that camera. One evening on a whim I started a blog and every photo captured here has been by that camera.

I love that camera and all the moments of life we have been able to capture with it. Several years later and the camera is no longer the best of the best but I am not sure I can ever part with it! To me it still takes amazing photos.

30 Days of Thanksgiving: Day 13 ~ The Drive -Thru

So, I have had a sick kid since late Friday night and have missed a couple of 30 Days of Thanksgiving but it’s not because I am out of things to be thankful for, in fact I have more than 30 things to be thankful for, with that said let’s get back to it with day 13.

Today, I am thankful for the drive thru. So often fast food and anything with a drive thru gets a bad rap but after being housebound and Little M still not feeling well I am truly thankful that I could get out of the house and go grab a Starbucks coffee and sandwich for hubby and I to enjoy together in the car without spreading little M’s germs to the world!

If companies want to win the hearts of busy moms then add a drive thru! I am sure your sales will increase. J

So, drive thru you are mom's BFF and I am very thankful for you!

30 Days of Thanksgiving ~ Day 11: Veterans

Did you watch the World Series this year? If you were watching during game three you had the privilege of hearing Retired Naval Petty Officer, 1st Class, Generald Wilson sing 'God Bless America'. It brought me to tears. I listened to him sing it again a few days later and again this morning on 'Fox & Friends'. When they interviewed him about it he said he sings it as a prayer. May we all do the same. May God continue to bless America!

On this day we celebrate Veterans Day. I come from a long line of military men. My Grandpa Clark served in World War I. My father served in Vietnam. My Uncle Ronnie gave his life in Vietnam. My brother and cousin served during Desert Storm. My beloved husband served during Desert Storm.

For each of these and all the others that selflessly give up their comfortable lives so that we may continue with ours I am so very thankful. May we always remember that . . . FREEDOM ISN'T FREE!!!

30 Days of Thanksgiving Day 7: Late Nights

Today I am thankful for late nights with hubby. A time when all is quiet and we can catch up. We usually eat something and yes I do realize that is probably to my detriment but frankly I don’t care. I think food is part of my love language and after a day with the kids I want food and hubby time.

It is a time to laugh and rant. We always say we will go to bed at a decent hour but rarely does that ever happen and the next morning we realize it. It’s one of those things that is worth less sleep!

30 Days of Thanksgiving ~ Day 6: Love

Today I am thankful that I have never been unloved. I have no idea what it would be like to be unloved but I do know that it would be pretty awful and hopeless. Love gives us hope. Love gives us patience. Love gives kindness.

My pastor once said that "People who are loved well, love others well.” I want to be the person who loves others well. Jesus loved us so much he gave up his life so we can have eternal life. Only love does that. Only love gives hope.

Even if no one ever wants you, Jesus does. You have never been unloved by Jesus. I am so very thankful that my God is the God of love and that he allows us to demonstrate our love to others. What a gift!

30 Days of Thanksgiving ~ Day 5 Boys

Today I am thankful for both of my boys. I cannot imagine life without them. When we first found out we were pregnant with our first son I had no idea what we were getting into and honestly there are no words that can express how thankful I am that I get to be their mother. Then when we had our second boy I never realized how amazing it would be to see our oldest love being a brother so much. Of course they argue and fight but their love for each other amazes me. I never realized how much happiness could come from two little boys.

Tonight my oldest and I went on a mom and son date and I could not believe he was old enough for us to hold a conversation the whole time. Time files by and I am so thankful for both of my boys!

30 Days of Thanksgiving ~ Day 4: Comfy Beds!

For the last couple of months we have been traveling with my husband's job. Since we are empty-nesters I tag along with him. (Also thankful for wi fi but that's another post!) We have been blessed with nice rooms and relatively comfortable beds along the way. But I still long for my own comfy bed at home.

This past weekend we were able to be home and in our own bed. Ahhhhh . . . pure bliss! A mattress that is not too hard and not too soft but just right. High thread count sheets that smell like my favorite laundry soap and softener. A fluffy down comforter that adds warmth but not a ton of weight. And to top it all off my favorite quilt.

I travel with my favorite pillow, but I wonder how big a suitcase I would need to sneak in my sheets and comforter??? That's such an appealing thought but I have my suspicions that it still just wouldn't be the same.

30 Days of Thanksgiving ~ Day 3: Mothers

I am thankful for my mother. A mother is such a powerful thing. Whoever thinks mothers are not important has never really considered how much influence their mother had into who they became.

Today I got the chance to enjoy a lunch with my mom by ourselves. It is a wonderful thing to share lunch with someone who has known you your entire life, someone who has been with you through the ups and downs in life and loves you like crazy. The thankfulness for my mother has grown even more so now that I am a mother. Her love for me amazes me. I am so glad that God gave us mothers and I know how blessed I am to have a great one too!

This relationship with my mother keeps me longing for a girl of my own. I look forward to being able to share a relationship just like my mother and I have.

30 Days of Thanksgiving ~ Day 2: Books

Today I am thankful for books. They have been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember. Some people have security blankets, I have books. I love everything about them, the feel of them, the smell of them, the sight of them and especially the words that they contain.

A friend of mine told me recently that she thinks that readers are a bit arrogant because they think they know everything! (She meant this in a completely humorous way.) I have a sneaky suspicion that she might be on to something. I've always felt like if I could read about how to do something then I would be able to do it. (Drives my husband crazy!)

If I had to choose one of my greatest accomplishments it would be passing on the love of reading to my children. I'm now doing my duty to make sure that my grands love it too. A lot has changed about reading. The grands love to read on my Kindle and my smartphone. But a lot has stayed the same. Snuggling up with your favorite person to read an engaging story is the best place to be!

30 Days of Thanksgiving ~ Day 1: Family

One of my favorite days of the year is Thanksgiving. Not so much for the food . . . I'm lactose intolerant and most of my family's favorite dishes seem to consist of creamy sauces. That all equals one giant belly ache for me. No matter how I beg and plead they just won't get on the bandwagon of fresh veggies as a side. I think if we didn't have Cheesy Broccoli and Rice mutiny would happen!

So . . . why is it my favorite day? Mostly because it is a day of being thankful as a family. Since the kids were tiny we would always take time before eating to go around the table and say what we are thankful for. In the early days the kids tended to be thankful for things like the dog and candy. Now that all three are adults with families of their own the moments are very poignant. Sweet tears of gratitude flow as we see the full circle of life before our eyes. Now the grands are thankful for dogs and candy.

Last year we added a few new faces to the mix. Our son Chase invited some of his Chinese students to experience a 'typical' American Thanksgiving. It was a very interesting mix of traditional Chinese food made by them and traditional Thanksgiving fare made by us.
