I Love You More ~ 5 Simple Ways To Show It {Giveaway}

by Fitzysmom

We have a silly little game that we play around here called ‘I Love You More’. It started innocently enough with me telling my grandboy that I loved him. He answered back with, “No, I love you!” Of course my response was, “I love you more!” His response was, “No, I love you more!” After a few more rounds of those words we then added, “I love you more than ice cream.” Or whatever other ridiculous thing we could think up. This little back and forth goes on and on with total abandon until we are both lost in a fit of giggles.

Love is such a gift that we can give our kiddos. It provides security to them in the darkest of days. It really doesn’t take much time, money or effort to instill this valuable resource in our children. Over on the Tommy Nelson blog this month we have an article entitled, 5 Ways To Show Your Kids Love Today. The points of that article are as follows:

1. Use Your Words. Open up your mouth and simply tell your child that they are loved. Let them know that they are loved simply because they are your child. Stick a note in their lunch box. Put a post-it on their mirror. If they are older and driving, put a note in their car or just send them a text. There is nothing more heartbreaking than hearing an adult say that they never heard their parent tell them they loved them. Don’t be that parent. Say it to them over and over until it is so ingrained that as teenagers they roll their eyes and say, “I know, I know, you love me.” Trust me, deep down they crave it.

2. Do Something For Them. We all have dreaded chores that must be done. Whatever that task may be for your child go help them do it, just because. It is perfect because they are held captive with the duty so you can use that time to communicate to them that they are valued and loved. Even if it is just joining them in making their bed and picking up their room, you are still showing them that you desire to be in their presence and that what they are doing matters.

3. Give Them Something. Gifts don’t have to be expensive or big. What if you picked up a cute new pair of earrings for your daughter while you were buying groceries at the supercenter? For my boys an inexpensive pocket sized car will light up their faces. Just knowing that your parent thought of you while they were away conveys a sense of love and security.

4. Do Something With Them. Spending one on one time with each of your kids is priceless. For little ones, an ice cream cone at McDonald’s is magical. As they get older try a weeknight dinner and movie or maybe a window shopping trip to the mall. Just having your undivided attention lets your child know that you love them and are willing to set aside time just for them.

5. Give Them A Hug. This isn’t so hard when they are little, although I did have one that just was not a cuddler but I still pulled him in my lap and held him and told him he was loved. Physically hugging your teenager is just as important as hugging your toddler. If they are typical they will shrink away from it, but don’t let that stop you! A good backrub or back scratch, a squeeze of the hand, a ruffle of the hair, it all goes a long way in conveying your love and affection towards your child.

While it is important that our kids grow up knowing we love them, knowing that God loves them is even more important. In fact our love for them only matters during their physical lifetime, but the love of God has an eternal impact.

One of the biggest blessings in life is introducing your child to the Father. It is such an important duty of ours as parents that the Bible says in Deuteronomy 11:18-19,
“Impress these words of Mine on your hearts and souls, . . . Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”
Are you doing that? We encourage you today to in some way not only tell your children that you love them but that the Father loves them. Love is a powerful thing . . . pass it on!

We’ve come across an adorable little bedtime prayer book from Tommy Nelson that was written by Amanda Lamb. It is called I Love You To God And Back. We loved this sweet little book so much that we want to give a copy of it to one of our readers. Our prayer is that it will be a blessing to you as you teach your children that not only do you love them, but God loves them.

I thought I would share this giveaway with all of you since my kiddos want a bounce house! It's on our summer bucket list! Enter below and good luck.
Messy Mama  expressed that her favorite part was the way this particular slide is built.  In the back there is netting along with a nice size landing.  So, if her two year old lost her footing while climbing up then she wouldn’t get hurt.  Her two year old never lost her footing though.  I HIGHLY recommend Blast Zone Inflatables.  The products come with everything you could need from stakes to patches and glue.  The products are exceptional quality.  Most importantly, they are extremely detailed in telling you how to keep your kids safe.  They kids had a blast and so did we while we watched all the fun.  Messy Mama and I were sad that we were over the weight limits for the fun though.

Getting Holiday Ready with It Works! Wraps + Giveaway

For a while now I have seen the It Works! Wraps everywhere and I have been curious about how they work.  One of my friends sells them and so she graciously let me try one out!

The wrap comes folded in a sealed bag. You just unfold it, take it out and smooth it across the area that needs toning.  I choose my mid-section and hips. I have had two kiddos and I could use the extra toning!
After you place the wrap you take plastic wrap (not included) and wrap it around the area over the top of the It Works! Wrap. Then you wait for 45 minutes and then you get results. It’s that easy. They do recommend drinking water and that is what I did while I waited and watched a movie.

The wrap smells like menthol and has a soothing cool sensation when it is applied. It felt like a spa treatment. After the 45 minutes I took it off then rubbed in the left over cream. You can repeat this process every 72 hours.

After both of my pregnancies I was left with a lot of stretch marks and I love that after I took off the wrap my stomach and hips were noticeably  toner. I also think it makes my stretch marks looks smoother.  It’s nice to see instant results and they say that with every wrap you use you see more results each time. If you want the results to last it is encouraged that you eat healthy and exercise regularly.

With the holidays and all those photos being taken it is a great time to try It Works! I am also keeping this in mind for summer vacations!

You can purchase the Ultimate Body Applicator 4 Wraps for $59.00 on Kristin's website this is normally $99.00 ARV!

One reader will get to test out a It Works! Wrap for themselves!  Just fill out the Rafflecopter form below to be entered. This giveaway will end on 12/02/13 at 12:00 am EST. Open to US only 18+

Scented Holiday Memories with #FebrezeHoliday ~ $10 Walmart Gift Card Giveaway

Febreze graciously provided Rambles of a SAHM with products and a giftcard to facilitate this review. No other compensation was provided. The opinions expressed are our own.

My most vivid memories are accompanied by a scent. When I think of the holidays I think of my grandmother's house. Thanksgiving and Christmas always meant a trip to grandma's at some point. The weather was often chilly with a crisp bite to the air.

Febreze has magically captured that feeling with their Winter Frost line of products. When I use this scent I can just imagine crawling out of the car and trudging up the walk to grandma's front door. The smell reminds me of those beautiful crisp mornings where the air is clean and the day holds such promise.

Once inside the front door, you would be immediately greeted by the stunning Christmas tree. The lights were twinkling and the ornaments gently swaying. A deep inhale of the scented tree would always lead to a sigh of contentment. The day surely held wondrous prospects!

Even though I now choose to display an artificial tree in my own home, I can still capture that same feeling by using the Glistening Pine line from Febreze. I can easily hide the Set & Refresh Air Freshener behind the manger scene below the tree and no one is the wiser.

By far my favorite room was the kitchen. The aromas that emanated from there held the promise of a delicious family dinner. My grandmother had a spiced cider that was absolutely to die for. In the evening after we had eaten and opened presents we would all gather round and sing carols and read the Christmas story. This time was always accompanied by her spiced cider.

Using the NOTICEables Warmer with the alternating scents of apple cider and cranberry frost in my kitchen allows me to feel like I have my grandmother near.

For more great ideas on using Febreze you can follow them on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube!

Tasty Tuesday ~ The New Southwest Cookbook Giveaway!

Welcome to Tasty Tuesdays with Laura from Food Snob St. Louis! Maybe you are looking for some good Christmas gift ideas, and I have a fantastic cookbook giveaway for you today.

There is something inspiring and exciting about opening a new cookbook. It makes me feel like a little kid on Christmas morning who is trying to decide what to play with first - only my dilemma is what to make first. I love how it can mix up a routine week of meals, make me try new ingredients or new ways of using those that are familiar to me. It just fun to watch someone's creativity spark some of my own. This is exactly what happened when I flipped through The New Southwest from Scarletta Bakes. When I think "southwest," I think tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas . . . nothing all that shocking or surprising. A quick look at this cookbook though, made me throw all those ordinary ideas out the window. It is packed with creative, unique combinations of flavors and ingredients with a twist and influence from the American Southwest.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The Food Snob has been begging me for months to make our own salsa rather than buying it from the store (we go through a LOT of salsa and chips here). I had an odd burst of energy/nesting/trying to do anything but think about how I haven't had a baby yet on Saturday morning and decided to make the Sunday Salsa recipe. This involved sweating peppers, which was a new process to me. Scarletta does an excellent job of explaining exactly how this process works and a few options of how to roast and then sweat the peppers. I appreciated this so much. Had she just put "sweat the peppers" in the instructions, I would of been one lost chef. I left out the jalapenos since I wanted a milder salsa, and it turned out fantastic. I can see why she makes a huge batch each Sunday.

Book Review + Giveaway ~ The Story of Christmas by Fiona Boon

Fiona Boon
Illustrated by Lara Ede
Juvenile Fiction
Ages 0-3

About the book:

The true Christmas story in a package kids will love.

This board book is a wonderful way to introduce the miraculous story of Christmas to young hearts. Sweet, rhyming text and adorable illustrations will engage children as parents and grandparents read about the nativity story. The padded cover is a soft but durable format for little hands, and the “carry-me” handle makes it easy for kids to tote this book to bed, to church, in the car, and on-the-go.

My thoughts:

Absolutely adorable would be the best description of this book. It is a heavy duty board book designed with little hands in mind. It has a handle that my little grandson loved using to carry the book around. The cover is padded and the inside pages are very sturdy to stand up to your toddler's handling of it.

The story is told in a sing-songy style of verse. The rhymes are easily spoken aloud and will delight your little one. The illustrations are very colorful and have a beautiful mixed media style to them. The best part is that the story does not deviate from the original telling in the scriptures.

This little book would make a wonderful stocking stuffer for your little one. I think you will be thrilled to watch your sweet little guy or girl carry this book around. We were thrilled to watch our little one tote it around and then bring it to us to read it to them.

Book Review + Giveaway ~ Itsy Bitsy Christmas by Max Lucado

Max Lucado
Juvenile Fiction
Ages 2-7

About the book:

“The King has come! Even for a little one like me.”

Do you ever feel like you are too small or too ordinary? That is just how Itsy and Bitsy feel. When these two charming little mice hear that a King is coming to Bethlehem, they set off with great enthusiasm to find Him. Along the way, they are met with discouraging words telling them they are too little and unimportant for any king. Just when Itsy and Bitsy begin to believe that they really aren’t big enough for the new King, they learn that Christ the King has indeed come for everyone.

Crafted by master storyteller Max Lucado, Itsy Bitsy Christmas helps children understand God’s great love and know that He sent His Son for all of us—little or big, young or old.

My thoughts:

If you are familiar with the work of Max Lucado you already know that this is going to be a fabulous book. We happened to receive it when my four year old grandson was at the house and we wound up reading it together over and over and over.

The pictures are beautiful and the words easily flow off of the tongue. But the most important part is that the message of the book comes through. The dialogue of the two cute little mice remind reader that God's love is for everyone no matter how big or small you may be.

We plan on adding this to our stash of Christmas books that we bring out each season. I think it would delight the younger children in your family as well.

Book Review + Giveaway ~ Jesus Calling: 365 Devotions For Kids by Sarah Young

Sarah Young
Juvenile Nonfiction/Devotional
Ages: 7-12

Back of the book:

Help your child develop an intimate relationship with the Lord through daily time with Him and His Word.

Each daily devotion is based on Scripture and written as though Jesus is speaking directly to your child!

Adapted from the original Jesus Calling devotional, with the same themes and scriptures as the adult version, this beautiful deluxe format is a great choice for families.

My thoughts:

Not only is this an awe inspiring book it is a visually appealing book. It has a leather like cover that makes it feel nice in your hands. The popular burnt orange and teal colors will draw your tween to the book.

Tama Fortner has adapted the original adult version of this book into a very readable form for kids. Each day contains a scripture and then a reading about that scripture that comes from the point of view of Jesus speaking to you. The day's reading is then ended with a suggested passage of scripture to read on your own.

My first thought about this book was how perfectly it would work for family devotions since children and parents share the same devotional themes in each day's readings. In my opinion this would make a great conversation starter over dinner each night.

This would make a wonderful gift for that special occasion for the tweens in your life. I look forward to giving a few copies as gifts to my oldest grand and my niece and nephews.

Leap Frog ~ Ready, Set, Read & Write Giveaway with #LeapReader

This is Little M’s last year of preschool and since we have chosen to homeschool I will be teaching him to read and write. While we do have a curriculum I was looking for something that would make learning to read and write fun. Around this same time MomSelect and Leap Frog asked if we could host a party and review the LeapReader and I gladly said yes.

Our kit included everything we needed to really test out the LeapReader. Little M was excited to show it to everyone and right away started using it. The LeapReader is easy to use and requires no batteries! To charge your LeapRead just plug it into the USB drive and let it charges. This is also the way you upload books so that the LeapReader pin contains the programs for the books.

There are so many things you can do with just one book. You can have the book read to you, listen to music and play a trivia game.  Leap Frog is always adding to their audio books and currently there are over 150+ books to choose from.

Little M thinks the Leap Read is pure entertainment and has no clue how much it teaches him. I have noticed that he is more imaginative and writes better after playing with the LeapReader. The other aspect of the LeapReader that I like is how it teaches listening skills. This skill is something Little M needs work on and to use the LeapReader you have to follow directions.

I think what speaks most highly about the LeapReader is that my son has learned that learning to read and write can be fun. Also as his teacher I realize that boys especially, like video games and the LeapReader makes reading and writing as fun as playing a video game. The best part is that he can sit by himself and do this quietly while I work on something else. As a homeschooling mom this is great since we spend most of our day with one on one interaction.

Since Christmas is not too far away we thought we would give away a LeapReader to one of you. I really think this is the perfect gift for preschoolers learning to read and write!

Giveaway:

One US only 18+ reader will win their own LeapReader Kit. Just fill out the Rafflecopter form to be entered. Giveaway will end on 11/18/2013 at 12:00 am EST. Good Luck!
